Laine & Kapanen trade trash talk ahead of Saturday night match up.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Winnipeg Jets are set to face off for the second time in a single week and it seems like there is somewhat of a rivalry budding between the two Canadian franchises, or at least between two of their players.

On Wednesday night the Maple Leafs managed to get the better of the Jets, eventually walking away with the win by a margin of 4 - 2, and it seems like there may have been a little friendly banter exchanged during that win for the Leafs. 22 year old Toronto Maple Leafs forward Kasperi Kapanen revealed today that he received some advice from 20 year old Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine on Wednesday and although Kapanen called it advice it's clear that in reality it was just some seemingly friendly trash talk from Laine.

According to Kapanen, Laine gave him some advice regarding the current length of his hair. It seems that the young Winnipeg Jets superstar is not a fan of Kapanen's current hairstyle and wasn't afraid to let him know about it. Kapanen though had some trash talk of his own however and today he fired back with some shots at Laine's rather infamous style during the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

“He told me to go get my hair cut last game," said Kapanen as per TSN's Kristen Shilton "But I think with his style last year [that beard!], he’s the last guy to tell me to cut any facial hair or hair on my body.”

I must admit that Kapanen does make a rather compelling case for his side of the argument here as Laine's beard was one of the most atrocious we've seen in some time at the National Hockey League level. If I had to assign an early winner my vote is going to Kapanen on this one but we'll have to wait and see if we don't get more barbs in the media following tonight's contest.

Now to be clear both of these guys are young players that have been a part of Finland's national hockey program from some time now and are likely very familiar and very friendly with one another as a result of that connection. This comes off like nothing more than good natured ribbing between two buddies and should be taken as such.
