Alexander Karmanov-Pinskiye Yastreby (Belarus)

'Largest hockey player on the planet' is coming to Ontario.

Only 17 years old and he's already much bigger than Zdeno Chara!

This is one big kid.

This past week the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League selected defenseman Alexander Karmanov as part of the Canadian Hockey League's Important Draft, and boy does Karmanov ever stand out. The Bulldogs have billed him as the "largest hockey player on the planet" and it's hard to argue given this young man's massive frame.

Karmanov is a whopping 7 feet tall and is already tipping the scales at a huge 273 lbs, leaving little doubt about whether or not he has earned that nickname. For some context, the largest man to play in the National Hockey League in recent years was former Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, but even Chara only measured 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighed in lower than Karmanov at just 250 lbs during his NHL career.

Now to be clear I'm not comparing him to Chara to suggest that he will go on to be that level of player in the NHL, but merely drawing a comparison between the size of the two men.

Karmanov was only selected with the 172nd pick at the CHL Import Draft and will have to show that he is more than just a big frame if he ever hopes of making waves at the NHL level. That being said highlights from last year show that Karmanov can be a dominant net-front presence just through the use of his size alone, which effectively makes him impossible to clear from the front of the net.

It's going to be a lot of fun to watch how this young man's career develops, especially considering he is already this big at just 17 years of age.
