With their 2-0 shutout defeat against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday, the Red Wings have now lost 7 games in a row. Some are already throwing the  towel on the season.

That certainly isn't the case for Wings coach Jeff Blashill who refused to talk about desperation, but rather preferred to talk about urgency. Blashill says that desperation causes mistakes and it is quite apparent that the Red Wings cannot afford to make many more mistakes, as early as it may be in the season.

Urgency is definitely the right word to use when describing what kind of mentality the Red Wings need to have in order to turn the tide on their horrible start to the season.

It's no secret that the Detroit Red Wings are a rebuilding team. As such, they do not currently have a team captain. Dylan Larkin, a fan favorite in Detroit is certainly looking like a likely candidate to wear to "C" for the Wings. Through all of the misery there currently is in Hockey Town, Larkin has emerged as a leader.

As the first line centerman, Larkin takes a large part of the blame when it comes to Detroit's woes. He says that he must be better offensively as well as defensively and that he must lead the team from the front by scoring more goals. Larkin adds that his offensive struggles are starting to occupy his mind.

Speaking about the team in general, Larkin explained that the Wings must get their confidence back and find a way to win, whatever it takes. He says that his team will have opportunities to do just that over the upcoming month, adding that they "(...) are going to have to figure this out pretty quick or else it's going to get ugly."

It appears that the Red Wings aren't exactly ready to press the panic button just yet, but are inching closer and closer to it. Some fans have already given up on the season with the hope that the Wings will get the first overall pick in the 2020 entry draft.

While the perspective of landing Alexis Lafrenière who is absolutely tearing it up in the Quebec junior hockey league, the Detroit Red Wings may not have said their last word.
