The Dylan Larkin situation in Detroit has gone from uncomfortable to potentially franchise-altering.

After weeks of speculation surrounding the Red Wings captain’s future, a stunning new report from Nick Kypreos has shed light on just how high Detroit’s asking price really is.

According to Kypreos, the Red Wings would have “no problem” trading Larkin to the Minnesota Wild—but only if Minnesota is willing to part with star winger Matt Boldy.

If true, this would be far more than an ordinary hockey trade. It would be one of the biggest blockbuster deals the NHL has seen in years, involving two cornerstone players in the primes of their careers.

Kypreos added that outside of Boldy, there is reportedly “nothing else Detroit GM Steve Yzerman is too interested in,” underscoring just how selective the Red Wings intend to be if they move their captain.

The timing is particularly fascinating as the situation only appears to be getting worse…

While Larkin technically remains a member of the Red Wings, his future with the organization continues to hang in the balance. Adding to the intrigue, his captain designation has reportedly been removed from official NHL roster listings, fuelling even more speculation about where this saga is headed.

Yzerman addressed the situation publicly over the weekend for the first time since reports surfaced that Larkin had requested a trade.

The Red Wings general manager made it clear he feels no urgency to move a player who still has five years remaining on his contract, insisting he will only make a deal if it benefits Detroit.

“We’re going to do what’s best for the Red Wings,” was the clear message from Yzerman.

Since then, Larkin’s agent, Pat Brisson, has confirmed that discussions between both sides have been ongoing for more than a month.

“The process is that we’ve had discussions for the last month or so,” Brisson told Pierre LeBrun. “We’ve agreed that we’ll be working together on this.”

That statement suggests neither side is looking to escalate tensions publicly, even as the possibility of a blockbuster continues to loom.

For now, one thing appears increasingly clear: if Dylan Larkin is traded, Steve Yzerman isn’t interested in futures or draft picks. He reportedly wants another franchise cornerstone in return—and Matt Boldy may be the only player who fits that description.
