Last week, the Vancouver Canucks placed defenseman Travis Hamonic on a temporary leave of absence as he works through his “personal matters.”
The blue liner, who had not attended the team’s training camp, had not opt out of the 2021-22 season despite remaining at home in Manitoba for personal reasons. He was later placed on waivers by Vancouver on Oct. 10.
On Tuesday night, the Canucks announced that Hamonic will now report to AHL Abbotsford in the coming days.
Vancouver inked Hamonic to a two-year, $6-million contract back in July with expectations he would factor in amongst the team’s top-four defensemen.
Last year, the veteran had 10 points, three goals and seven assists, in 38 games during his first season with the Canucks.
