Latest update on Mike Babcock could hint at NHL return!

The Spittin Chiclets reported late on Thursday night that Mike Babcock has resigned as head coach at the University of Saskatchewan after one season with the Huskies.

And it has gotten fans across the NHL talking…

Earlier in 2021, Babs agreed to take over as head coach of the Huskies replacing Dave Adolph, who retired in April after 28 years with the program. Babcock grew up in Saskatoon and played for the Huskies for one season in 1981-82. The decision to coach the team ultimately came down to spending more time with family and coaching alongside his son Michael, who is an assistant coach with the team.

Babcock’s name had come up in potential replacement options last season and he could be on the list again once the 2022-23 season kicks off and it takes a few weeks for coaches to land on the hot seat.

We all know how Babcock comes with his share of controversy. Babcock was once the highest-paid head coach in the National Hockey League, but got a lot of heat and backlash for poor actions taken on players in Detroit and during his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Spittin Chiclets do not say more about why Babcock isn’t returning to Saskatchewan and if it could be linked to him staying available for an NHL return, though we know this will be a hot topic to keep an eye on this upcoming season.
