Nearly a month ago, there was a significant update about the investigation into the 2018 World Juniors scandal that has rocked Hockey Canada to its very foundations. It was then believed that results of that investigation are about to be revealed and that players currently in the NHL will be suspended as a result of that very same investigation. Andy Strickland went even as far as saying that likely “5 players” will be facing NHL suspensions for their involvement in the 2018 WJC sexual assault scandal, pointing to significant names.

On Tuesday, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly was asked by Michael Russo of The Athletic where stood the investigation and the pending suspensions, with the question:

Let me ask you for a 2018 Hockey Canada World Juniors update. What’s the latest, and is it even frustrating for you that it’s taken this long? and this is the answer Daly provided:

“No, because I think the investigation takes whatever time it needs to take. You want to do a thorough job. You want to get all the information you can. I think it’s only fair to gather all the information you can. I do think we expect to see a final report very shortly, and then what flows from that is really an unknown at this point. But I expect that that’ll play out, this is going to sound redundant, but sooner rather than later."

Back in May, news broke that Hockey Canada quietly settled a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by eight unnamed players, including several members of the country’s 2018 world junior team, following a gala in London, Ontario. Many players then made statements that they weren’t involved, but others have yet to comment. Forwards Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou, who were members of the 2018 world junior team, released separate statements on social media, claiming they had no involvement in the alleged incident. The agency representing Carter Hart, Jake Bean, Kale Clague, Colton Point, and Taylor Raddysh released a statement denying any involvement in the incident on behalf of the players.Four other players from that Canadian championship team — Cale Makar, Victor Mete, Conor Timmins, Sam Steel and Jonah Gadjovich — have also publicly stated they weren’t involved.

The players were not identified in court documents.

However, it feels like we will know soon enough the names of those involved and what the price to pay will be for their involvement.
