Leafs angry after 2nd loss to lowly Coyotes

It's the second straight game they've blown the lead.

You'd think that one of the highest scoring teams in the Eastern Conference would have no problem lighting up a struggling franchise that doesn't even play in a National Hockey League rink, right?

The Toronto Maple Leafs apparently went into Mullet Arena last night thinking they'd have an easy time against the desert dogs known as the Arizona Coyotes. However, just like they did to the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche earlier in the week, the Coyotes flipped the script on the visiting high powered offense of their visitors.

When it was all said and done, the Coyotes earned the two points in the standings thanks to having tallied six goals on the scoreboard to Toronto's three. And needless to say, the Leafs weren't happy with the result of the game they knew they should have easily won.

"We just didn't do a good job managing the game in the third," Toronto forward Alex Kerfoot said. "Coming into [the third period] with the lead, that's a game we obviously should be winning, and we gave it away."

“That is two games in a row now that we have given up a lead in the third period,” Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. "It’s two games we’ve been in control of. It got away on us for different reasons.”

Of course, the Leafs had also surrendered the lead in their previous game against the St. Louis Blues, but were bailed out by the overtime heroics of forward William Nylander.

Meanwhile, it was a careless penalty from former Leafs defenseman Conor Timmins that opened the door for his ex-teammates to take control.

“That was just on me,” said Timmins. “I took a bad penalty early in the third period and let them back in, and then it's a tie game and it can go either way.

"We have to limit those mistakes, myself especially.”
