Leafs drop relaxed dress code after player arrives to game in jeans and t-shirt

Time to suit up again, boys!

The Toronto Maple Leafs' relaxed casual dress code experiment lasted approximately three weeks before the team pulled the plug on the experiment, reports NHL analyst and former Leafs video-coach Jack Han.

Han reports that GM Kyle Dubas reversed the decision he made to drop the team's long-standing dress code after a player arrived to the rink wearing a t-shirt.

Evidently someone on the roster pushed the boundaries of "business casual" a bit much.

Personally, I don't care if these guys show up to the rink in a tutu and ballet slippers so long as they come prepared to play. But, I get the reasoning from Dubas here. There's something to be said for the old mantra of 'dress professional, act professional'. And while a perennial Stanley Cup champion like the Tampa Bay Lightning or may get the benefit of the doubt on things like this, the Leafs simply don't. This is a team after all that doesn't exactly inspire confidence from their fanbase come crunch time, so why would they even think to push back on something as trivial as a long-standing dress code? Frankly, it shows me where their priorities lie.

In any case, if nothing else we did get to see photos of superstar Auston Matthews rocking a man-purse during the team's brief "business casual" phase:

Remember, "it's not a purse! It's EUROPEAN!"

All kidding aside, Matthews clearly has an eye on the fashion world and has made some truly bold choices when it comes to his clothing choices throughout the years.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the most fashion savvy guy but... are these good looks? Is this what fashion is supposed to look like?

I'll rock jeans/t-shirt most casual days, but I've been known to clean up with a nice suit or even a button up and slacks on occasion. Personally the idea of a man purse or a teddy-bear Gucci sweater has never been seen as high fashion to me, but again... what do I know?
