The Mitch Marner era in Toronto is now over and Maple Leafs will have to come to terms with that before the opening day of the 2025-26 season. On Wednesday, these same fans got a preview as a leaked video of Marner training in Vegas as new member of the Golden Knights surfaced. While the video does not show Marner in a full Vegas uniform, it still got intense reactions from the Leafs’ fanbase.

As we can see in the video, Marner is shooting the puck in Muskoka with the the signature white and gold Vegas gloves, and clearly there is great motivation behind each shot. It feels obvious that Marner looks relieved to be away from the pressure of the Toronto market.

The fan reaction however, was exactly what you would expect. While some appeared happy for Marner and looking forward to his fresh start in Vegas, others weren’t pleased with what they saw, since losing a 100-point player is rough, especially when you’re reminded what he can bring to a roster.

“This hurts. I’m upset. To see Mitch Marner in white and Gold Vegas gloves hurts. I was used to seeing Marner in Leafs gear, not in Vegas gear,” shared one fan.

“Leafs fans in shambles,” noted another one.

“Sell out,” lashed out one fan.

“Wow shooting from the slot! Too bad he didn’t spend a bit of time in real games in that spot. Guessing no checkers on the ice,” mocked another.

Marner looks ready more than ever to be a menace for the Golden Knights. In recent weeks, details emerged on how the star winger has since long targeted Vegas as his landing spot. In his introductory press conference, Marner revealed how his interest in Vegas began well before free agency. Citing his conversations with Mark Stone and Adin Hill during the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, Marner spoke openly about his early attraction to the Golden Knights’ culture, both on and off the ice.

As we remember around the March 7 deadline, Marner vetoed multiple trades while holding out for a perfect scenario in Vegas. Seeing him now practicing with Golden Knights colours is tough to digest for many fans in Toronto.

A brutal reminder on Wednesday that the Maple Leafs and their fans lost a player who recorded 741 points (221 goals, 520 assists) in 657 Maple Leafs’ games and is now ready to do even more damage in a Golden Knights’ jersey…
