Leafs fans go at Brad Marchand as he leaves the ice after Game 5
The NHL's biggest rat continues to pester the Leafs' fanbase.
If you're a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and you missed Game 5 of their second round series against the Florida Panthers last night... well... you didn't miss much.
The Leafs absolutely stunk on home ice and ended up dropping a 6-1 decision to the Panthers in front of boo'ing hometown fans. Fans not only boo'ed their team, but they also threw Leafs jerseys onto the ice and most ended up vacating the arena once the score hit 6-0 with about five minutes in regulation.
It was an ugly scene, to put things nicely.
And if you need a visual to sum up last night perfectly, it's Leafs fans going directly at Panthers forward and long-time Leafs killer Brad Marchand while Marchand skates off the ice laughing and smiling.
It was an embarrassing performance from a team who has rightfully earned a reputation for fumbling the bag come playoff time. Need I remind you that the Leafs had a 2-0 series lead and are now down 3-2 with their backs up against the wall?
Yeesh...
Goaltender Joseph Woll was pulled and replaced by backup Matt Murray, leading reporters to ask head coach Craig Berube about the status of starter Anthony Stolarz for Game 6. Unfortunately, Berube isn't counting on Stolarz to be their White Knight in Game 6.
Oof... that's a tough pill to swallow.
After the game captain Auston Matthews spoke up and publicly admonished his own play and the play of his teammates.
While it's good of the captain to recognize the severity of the team's situation, his on ice play doesn't do much to inspire confidence. Matthews has been a complete no-show in the team's last three games and is now on the brink of going scoreless in the entire series. Yeesh... again.
