The official is trending on social media for the wrong reasons.
The holiday break might have been too long for the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues, who didn’t look that good in last night’s game…
“As a general rule, you don’t get too critical of these games coming out of the (Christmas) break, even less so when you get two points,” Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said after the contest in St. Louis.
Toronto ended up on top with a 5-4 overtime win as the Maple Leafs were also given a penalty shot in that frame. TJ Brodie took the shot after he was tackled by Jordan Kyrou, but Blues goalie Jordan Binnington got his right pad on the puck and stopped him.
The players looked rusted and so did the referees Wes McCauley and Brian Pochmara. McCauley was even brutally called out on social media after last night’s game, with fans in Toronto wondering if the official only sucks during Maple Leafs’ games or if he is just not that great of a referee after all.
The Maple Leafs continue their road trip on Thursday, facing the Coyotes at the Mullet Arena in Arizona.
We bet Keefe and his players are hoping McCauley isn’t traveling to the desert as well.
