NHL Player Safety has issued Toronto Maple Leafs forward Kyle Clifford a one game suspension for hitting Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ross Colton from behind.
In its explanation of the suspension NHL Player Safety states that Clifford delivers a "forceful check into Colton's numbers that delivers him directly into the boards." The league's video also states that Colton does not make a sudden movement to expose himself to Clifford, but rather that Clifford delivers a hit on a prone opponent the entire time.
Because this is Clifford's first NHL suspension, he'll be given just a one game sit down.
