That does not sound pleasant.

Leafs forward misses skate with complications from previous injury.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ben Smith took a big step forward in his recovery from injury today but it sounds like it may have been a painful step.

Leafs TV's Paul Smith is reporting that Smith had a number of wires removed from his surgically repaired hand today, the ongoing effect of what was by all accounts a pretty severe injury for Smith.

While Smith has since returned to action since initially having the surgery and even had the pins removed from his hand late in December, it's clear that this injury continues to impact him. This latest procedure has kept him off the ice at least for today and it's unclear when Smith, who hasn't played since February 25th against Montreal, will be making his return to the line up.

Hard to feel for this guy as he continues to battle through it for his team.
