Leafs GM Dubas reveals his plan for trade deadline
Zuma Press

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas has made perhaps the best acquisition this season when he inked Swedish sniper William Nylander to a longterm contract on the eleventh hour, just moments before the NHL’s contractual deadline on Dec 1st. With the Nylander saga officially over, Dubas has turned his focus to another upcoming deadline: The NHL Trade Deadline on February 25th.

With the Leafs pushing for a divisional championship, the team’s fans are lighting up local radio and social media with hypothetical trade offers and potential acquisitions. The biggest need, at least on paper, appears to be a top four defender and… you know what? Dubas agrees.

Check out this comment from Dubas, courtesy of TSN’s Kristen Shilton:

Interesting. The Leafs have been linked to St. Louis Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo, but it’s hard to see Dubas landing the Norris Trophy calibre blue liner without giving up an absolute haul in exchange. There’s Jake Muzzin and Alex Martinez of Los Angeles Kings to consider, but… are either of those two players real difference makers? It’s hard to see Muzzin or Martinez shaking up things for the Leafs, but then again maybe some extra depth is all this team really needs, especially considering how well goaltender Frederik Andersen has played this season?
