Probably not the way he wanted it to happen...

Leafs' Kadri scores “first goal of the season”... in his own net!

For the first time in the 2018-19 season, the Toronto Maple Leafs did not manage to record one goal yesterday, in their contest against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since the start of the campaign, the Canadian team has been impressive, especially with leading scorer and star player Auston Matthews taking over with 10 goals in just eight games. However, on Thursday night, Penguins netminder Matt Murray stopped all 38 shots that the Maple Leafs sent his way to record his first shoutout of the season and snapped Toronto's five-game winning streak.

While the Leafs' offense fizzled last night, one player from the roster got the attention of the broadcast team when he inadvertently scored into his own goal. Yes, Nazem Kadri, we are talking about you.

Since the season started against the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 3rd, the 28-year-old veteran forward has failed to record his first goal. When Leafs head coach Mike Babcock decided to pull his goalie Frederik Andersen with more than three minutes to go to give his club a chance to come back into as the score was 1-0, Kadri scored "his first goal of the season" by sending the puck at the back of his own net.

You can see how Kadri managed to make the mistake in the video above, atop of this article.

Murray will surely gain confidence with this shoutout, which took place in his first contest since returning from a concussion. Evgeni Malkin scored midway through the first period for Pittsburgh (3-1-2) before he and Kris Letang added one each into an empty net late in the contest. The first empty-netter goes to Malkin, but really, he needs to thank Kadri for it.

The Leafs third-line centre is more than overdue to score, despite the fact that he still manages to put his name of the scoresheet, having recorded four assists in eight games so far this season.

"I didn't think there was tons of room out there," Babcock said after the game to reporters, according to CBC. "They played fast, played with good structure.

"It's not often you see our team get no goals."

Well, that's not all true coach Babcock and we know it, right Kadri?
