UPDATE: Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs parted ways with assistant coach Marc Savard and there are further reports that head coach Craig Berube is up next on the chopping block. With all of that in mind, veteran NHL coach Peter DeBoer's name has come up in rumors linking him to the Leafs.

NHL insider David Pagnotta though reports this evening that he doesn't believe DeBoer would consider joining the Leafs, given his current situation.

From Pagnotta:

"With respect to DeBoer, he's comfortable. He's still getting paid by Dallas for the rest of the season and he's focused on Team Canada. If he does consider joining an NHL club, it would be for a team that's just right there. It's a team that... he'd be the finishing piece. He's the one that's going to put you over the edge by bringing him in in order to get to a Cup Final or win the whole thing. That's the type team that he'd consider joining, from what I've been told, is a team that's right there and they need that finishing piece. That's not here (in Toronto) unless they're throwing $5, $6, $7 million his way, I'd be a little bit surprised if he'd consider this."

This just in, the Toronto Maple Leafs have fired assistant coach Marc Savard.

Savard was in his second season with the Leafs after joining head coach Craig Berube's staff in 2024. He was previously and assistant coach with the Calgary Flames and the St. Louis Blues, as well as a head coach with the OHL's Windsor Spitfires.

Leafs fans seem to be happy with this move, as they've been calling for changes to the team's coaching staff for weeks now. The question is... will this move the needle? Do they need to make more changes?

All eyes will be on Berube if this team can't change their direction in early 2026. Stay tuned.
