Leafs make a move, place Wayne Simmonds on waivers
End of the road finally for Simmonds?
HockeyFeed
This just in, the Toronto Maple Leafs have placed forward Wayne Simmonds on waivers.
Interestingly enough, if Simmonds manages to clear waivers and goes unclaimed he'll become waiver exempt meaning that the Leafs will be able to move him back and forth between the AHL and the NHL to both optimize their roster and their salary cap structure.
Given that Simmonds has been available for some time though, I don't expect there to be a claim on him in the next 24 hours. Honestly, his NHL career is more than likely over. The 34 year old is a pending unrestricted free agent and has played just 13 games for the Leafs this season.
