Leafs indicate they are banged up.
The Toronto Maple Leafs gave their fans a bit of a scare today when they announced an emergency call up to the main roster.
The Leafs announced on Saturday that they had called up defenseman Mac Hollowell from the Toronto Marlies, a move that is often the result of an injury or injuries to a player or players on their roster. Combined with the fact that Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren had left Friday's game against the New York Rangers after taking a shot off the hand, there was serious concern that Liljegren had been injured.
Thankfully head coach Sheldon Keefe quickly dispelled those fears during his media availability on Saturday, indicating that Liljegren appeared ready to go for tonight's game against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals after undergoing some x-rays, but he also hinted at the fact that other players on the roster were currently dealing with some bumps and bruises.
In spite of those bumps and bruises it sounds like Hollowell will be an extra for tonight's game alongside Jordie Benn as that is how they were deployed during the Leafs' skate earlier today.
