This just in, the Toronto Maple Leafs have officially called up forward Nic Petan and goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo from the AHL's Toronto Marlies.

Check it out:

In case you missed the news yesterday, the Leafs placed goaltender Michael Hutchinson on waivers. This obviously leaves a hole in the team's backup goaltending position, but the hope is that Kaskisuo can step in and give it a shot. The 26 year old Kaskisuo has played eight games for the Marlies this season and has put up an impressive .928 save percentage and 2.13 goals against average. He has yet to play an NHL game in his four year pro career, but has performed admirably over the past two seasons with the Marlies.

As for Petan, he has absolutely destroyed the AHL, with seven goals in just three games. He has just one assist in five games with the Leafs so far this season. It's believed that Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas is attempting to arrange a trade for Petan so that he can receive a better shot with another team. The 24 year old has made it clear that he's not happy with his role in the Leafs organization and would like the opportunity to stick in the NHL long-term. Given his production at the AHL level, it's hard to argue against him. Here's hoping he tears it up with the Leafs in this stint and earns himself a full-time NHL job elsewhere in the league.
