Leafs might have just found trade part to save their goalie situation!

The Toronto Maple Leafs were handed a massive blow on Tuesday morning when it was confirmed that starting goalie Frederik Andersen would not be travelling with the team after suffering a neck injury on Monday. He is considered day-to-day.

It did not take long for trade rumours to kick back up in Toronto as general manager Kyle Dubas probably has to change his deadline plans depending on how long Andersen’s absence will be.

This prompted many insider to suggest different trade targets to get the Leafs the best help in between the pipes to ensure playoff participation. One that makes sense to most of them is the idea of making a deal with their Ontario rival, the Ottawa Senators, with whom they have traded many times in the past.

It is believed that veteran goalie Craig Anderson is on the market and seeing that the Sens would be contending for a playoff spot again this season, a deal could be in the works. Here is what TSN’s Frank Seravelli had to say about this possibility:

“Scoop: The Leafs would have to off-load a contract in Ottawa in order to make an Andersen-Anderson tandem possible – even if the Sens agree to eat half of Anderson’s contract. Anderson, 38, is in the final year of his two-year deal with a $4.75 million cap hit. There is no doubt Anderson has struggled over the past three seasons with a .901 save percentage. But he’s played better recently with a .927 mark over his last three starts, including 34 saves on 36 shots against the Leafs last Saturday night.”

Will Dubas be tempted to go back to GM Pierre Dorion to make another deal?
