The Toronto Maple Leafs are hoping that they've once again struck Arizona gold with Matthew Knies, as he was selected in the second round, 57th overall, in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner Auston Matthews also happens to hail from Arizona.
Can you imagine the Maple Leafs with two top talents from the hockey hotbed of Arizona?
Right now, Knies is suiting up for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers; he's scored 21 goals with 18 assists in 34 games played this season. And thanks to his efforts, he is one of three nominees for the Big Ten Player of the Year along with Ryan Bischel of Notre Dame and Luke Hughes of Michigan.
