Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas appears to be joggling so many balls this summer, fans fear he might drop a few.

While the most pressing matter remains re-signing restricted free agent winger Mitch Marner before the end of the month, Dubas also has to deal with the many trade rumours surrounding veteran forward Patrick Marleau and defenseman Nikita Zaitsev, as the latter demanded a trade out of Toronto earlier this month.

To add some more stuff onto his plate, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the Leafs are - on top of everything else - that few sources believe the Maple Leafs are quietly shopping backup goalie Garret Sparks.

The end of the regular season was quite tough on the 25-year-old netminder, who has one year left on his deal paying him $750k.

As the Maple Leafs got ready to face the Boston Bruins in the first round of the postseason, it was revealed that Sparks was expected to spend 10 days with the goalie coaches and that Michael Hutchinson was now the backup until further notice.

It seems like a notice isn’t coming soon.

It remains to be seen if the Maple Leafs will manage to find a trade partner who wants to acquire the services of Sparks. However, a few clubs might be intrigued and investigate on the possibility of landing a young energetic backup goaltender.

Let’s keep an eye on this.
