
The team confirms the worst for two veteran defensemen.
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson left last night's game against the Detroit Red Wings with an apparent lower-body injury and did not return to action.
Ekman-Larsson appeared to twist both his knee and his ankle on an awkward play and went down hard.

Early indications from the team last night were that the injury is significant and that Ekman-Larsson is expected to be out of the lineup for a lengthy period of time.
That's obviously awful news for the Leafs, who have relied heavily on the veteran defenseman all season long. There's still no official word on Ekman-Larsson's status, but NHL insider Chris Johnston confirmed this morning that Ekman-Larsson will miss some time but he also reported that fellow blueliner Brandon Carlo also injured himself last night.
Again, no word yet on the nature or the severity of Carlo's injury, but suffice it to say this news is a huge blow to a team that cannot afford injuries... especially on the backend.
