The Toronto Maple Leafs have been turning heads with their new group of young talent on the offensive side of the ice, but one insider is looking forward to the Leafs future on defense, and he believes the future is bright.

The Leafs selected Travis Dermott at #34 in the 2015 National Hockey League Entry Draft and he has been impressing those who have watched his development closely.

From David Alter of The Athletic:

Dermott is becoming one of the Toronto Marlies best defencemen in his first season with the organization and could even see NHL action as soon as next year, if his progress continues.

Dermott was hit with an unfortunate injury that sidelined his progress this season and he is currently working to regain the form he showed to start the season, and some like Alter believe it's likely he replaces one of Toronto's veteran defensemen and even pointed to Matt Hunwick as the potential odd man out.
