It would be a great time for Canadians to have hockey to change their minds as news coverage is focused on the tragedy that took place in Nova Scotia over the weekend. At least 23 innocent people lost their lives during a gunman’s 12-hour rampage across several Nova Scotia communities. It was Canada’s deadliest mass shooting. The rampage started in Portapique and ended in Enfield on Sunday.

Everyone is in shock and heartbroken over the tragedy. Heidi Stevenson, an RCMP officer who was killed in the shooting spree, was from Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby’s home town of Cole Harbour. Everyone in Canada is still trying to make sense of this horrible event, and that included hockey legend Hayley Wickenheiser who is spending Friday honouring Stevenson and the victims.

“Wearing red today in memory of Cst. Heidi Stevenson, who died a hero and saved lives. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. My condolences to her family, her husband Dean and her children Connor and Ava. Thinking of all the other victims and their families. Canada mourns with you.”

We too share our thoughts and prayers with the families of the victims and the ones of Stevenson, who died a hero, paying the ultimate price.
