Legendary goaltender Marty Brodeur came very close to becoming an NHL GM!

It looks like legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur came very close to becoming an NHL general manager last summer.

According to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, former New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues netminder was interviewed by the Buffalo Sabres for the vacant GM job, back in May. 

Here's what he had to say about that in the latest edition of 31 Thoughts:

One of the reasons Armstrong’s had success in St. Louis is that he’s put together a really strong staff. You assume he’s going to try and keep as many of them as he can.

Martin Brodeur was interviewed in Buffalo before Jason Botterill got the job, and he’s going to be a GM someday if he wants to be."

This comes as a surprise to some people, as Friedman's colleague, John Shannon, reported that the Sabres reached out to Brodeur, but that he simply refused to talk with the organization.

Brodeur is actually assistant general manager with the Blues, and he seems to enjoy his role with the franchise. In 1266 NHL games, he has a record of 691-397-154, a 2.24 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.
