Some harsh words... maybe Stuart Skinner wasn't the problem after all?
In case you missed it last night, the Edmonton Oilers dropped a 4-3 decision to the Calgary Flames in their final game before the Olympic break.
It's not the note that the Oilers wanted to go out on and certainly not the sustain that goaltender Tristan Jarry wants ringing for the next three weeks. Jarry has been pretty inconsistent in his brief time with the Oilers, but poor performances like last night are becoming more and more frequent. Jarry allowed 4 goals on 25 shots last night for a .840 save percentage. Not great...
Overall he sports a 3.64 goals against average and a .870 save percentage in 11 games with the Oilers so far... also not great.
Following last night's game Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl had some frank words about his team's coaching, his team's play and, indeed, his team's goaltending.
When asked what has to happen for his team to pick up the pace after the Olympic break, Draisaitl didn't mince words.
From Draisaitl last night:
"We're giving up too many goals. We've got to be better. I think it starts with the coaches. Everybody. You're never going to win if you have just 4 or 5 guys going."
"He (Jarry) can be a little bit better. It starts with us in front of him. But there are saves that our goalies need to make at some point." We've got to be better."
How's that for a blunt answer?
He's not wrong and maybe, just maaaaaaaaybe, Stuart Skinner wasn't the problem in Edmonton after all?
