The Edmonton Oilers have lost one of their most valuable players on Sunday night.

Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl appears to have suffered an injury after being on the receiving end of a big hit along the boards courtesy of Nashville Predators forward Ozzy Wiesblatt. The hit would occur roughly 5 minutes into the game's very first period with Wiesblatt crunching Draisaitl at an awkward angle right in front of the Predators bench.

Draisaitl, who was quickly skating up the ice prior to the hit, nearly came to a full stop when he appeared to slam his ribs into the boards and it was clear immediately that he was feeling the ill effects of the hit. Draisaitl very gingerly made his way back to the Oilers bench and quickly went back into the locker room before eventually returning to the bench.

Here is a close up look at the hit that has caused the injury:

Unfortunately although Draisaitl would return to the bench it appears he will be unable to continue, with the star forward remaining in the Oilers locker room for the start of the game's second period.

A very tough loss for the Oilers at the worst possible time in the season.
