Leon Draisaitl has not only been one of the best players on the Edmonton Oilers roster for years now, but has been one of the very best players in the entire National Hockey League. Even superstars are prone to making mistakes however and on Saturday night Draisaitl made one that cost his team perhaps more than any other single mistake in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs so far.

The Golden Knights and Oilers were in a heated battle in Game 3 on Saturday night and it looked like the two teams would be headed to overtime with the score all tied up at 3-3. Unfortunately with only 0.4 seconds remaining on the clock disaster would strike for Draisaitl when he would accidentally deflect the puck into his own net.

Here is a look at how it happened at real speed:

And here's a look at a close up and slow motion replay of the puck crossing the goal line, a puck that clearly was not going into the net based on its trajectory in this video.

It was a jaw-dropping mistake on the part of one of the very best players in the world and, much to his credit, Draisaitl faced the media following the game and owned up to his mistake.

"Obviously we didn't sort it out very well to let the puck get into the slot, but I think after that it's just unlucky," said Draisaitl after the game. "It's unfortunate, it goes off my stick... I'm just trying to keep it out of the net obviously and it's just a bad bounce."

Draisaitl appears to be taking the monumental mistake in stride which is frankly good news for the Oilers who will need to quickly turn things around and prepare for Game 4 of this series against the Vegas Golden Knights.
