Less is more for the Bruins?

An early playoff exit could have led the Boston Bruins to make significant changes to their lineup. The Bruins were eliminated in the first round by the Ottawa Senators this spring, and the management didn’t feel the need to tweak things.

Jimmy Hayes didn’t meet the expectations of Bruce Cassidy and company, and his contract was bought out in the summer. He will get a chance on a professional tryout with the New Jersey Devils. The Bruins also lost defenseman Colin Miller to the Vegas Golden Knights in the expansion draft.

Trade wise, the Bruins did not make any major additions to their roster. Young prospects will get a crack at the lineup, as forward Anders Bjork could get a chance to shine.

Frank Vatrano will get another chance to show what he has, improving to a top-six role. Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson could also put up a fight for minutes on the ice.

Defenseman Charlie McAvoy will battle for a spot on the top pair as fans dream to see him partner up with Torey Krug.

As for the netminding situation, Tuukka Rask and Anton Khudobin are ready for the season. Zane McIntyre will be Boston’s go-to goalie in Providence.

The Bruins may have been quiet all summer long on the trading front, but one story that remains loud and in Bruins fans’ faces everywhere is the ongoing negotiations with David Pastrnak. The young prodigy remains without a contract, and the Bruins cannot afford to lose him.

If not, puck drop is rapidly approaching, and the Bruins are almost unchanged since the Entry Draft. But improvements and adjustments can still be made throughout the season…
