The Arizona Coyotes and their faithful fans are putting all their positive energy towards making it to the postseason, but some negative one struck last night where it hurts the most.

One of the star player who’s helped the Coyotes a lot  this season is their goalie Darcy Kuemper, however, he was the victim of a viscous and scary injury in last night’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Kings’ Trevor Lewis was heading to the net and managed to fool Kuemper to score a goal, however, the Coyotes netminder did not see the puck go in. He was too busy getting hit in the mask by Lewis’ stick.

The stick poked through one of the holes of the cage and appeared to go straight into poor Kuemper’s eye sockets. Right after the stick went into his mask, Kuemper pushed it away and laid down face first on the ice, holding his face.

The team trainer went over and tried to calm Kuemper down as he seemed to be breathing heavily and was in considerable pain. The fans then saw the replay of the incident on the jumbo tron and they all gasped in shocked as we clearly saw how hard the stick poked through his face and in the vicinity of his right eye.

Kuemper needed help from the trainer and his teammates to get back on his feet and left the ice with a towel covering his face. He did not return to the game. Calvin Pickard replaced him in between the pipes.

Here are some videos of the scary injury:

The fans and the rest of his team quickly forgot about the playoff chances upon seeing their goalie severely injured. Like us, they all hope for the best for Kuemper.

After the game, it appeared to be too soon to tell the severity of the injury. However, some people that Kuemper’s vision was blurry, but was believed to be a similar injury suffered by Michael Grabner. We should know more later today.

The Coyotes lost the game 3-1, but most importantly, they lost Kuemper. They’re now four points back of Colorado with two games remaining.

It was a very painful day for Kuemper, the team and its playoff hopes.
