Life changing news for Russian Maple Leafs goaltender

What a week!

Trevor Connors

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltending prospect Artur Akhtyamov just announced on social media that he and his fiancee Anna got married this past weekend.

Congrats to the young couple!

Akhtyamov is just 22 years old, but it appears that he's ready to settle down and start a family with his new bride.

Incidentally, Akhtyamov is just two wins away from the Russian VHL championship, as well. Talk about a week! The guy marries his sweetheart on a Sunday and could win a league championship on a Wednesday! Not bad at all!

The lanky netminder is considered a B level prospect for the Leafs at this point mostly due to his lack of size. Sure, he stands 6'1" tall, but he weighs in at just 156 lbs. To put it frankly, he's just not an NHL sized goalie in this day an age. Gone are the days when smaller guys like Mike Vernon or Darren Pang could hold things down between the pipes in the NHL.

Nevertheless, Akhtyamov has an impressive 2.51 goal against average and a .921 save percentage with Kazan Ak-Bars this season.
