Defenseman Erik Cernak’s NHL career has been quite uneventful ever since he was selected in the second round, 43rd overall by the Los Angeles Kings back in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

He however never played a game for the Kings after they shipped him off to the Tampa Bay Lightning, along with netminder Peter Budaj, conditional pick in the 2017 draft and round 7 pick in the 2017 draft (Wyatt Kalynuk) in return for *  Ben Bishop and round 5 pick in the 2017 draft (Drake Rymsha).

He made his NHL debut this past season, taking part in 58 games with the Bolts, collecting five goals ans 16 points and adding three assists during Tampa’s short four-game playoff run.

Therefore Cernak’s summer started earlier than other NHLers’, but it took a turn for the worse on Friday when it was revealed that a criminal set his Mercedes G 500 on fire in his hometown of Kosice, in Slovakia.

While the suspect has yet to be caught, the estimated damage is at least 133K €….

That’s a lot of money for the poor guy who makes $700,000 for his services. He is a bargain for the Lightning and we hope he can get one for his car…
