Trade already looking like a disaster for the Sabres after just 1 game.
The trade is looking worse and worse by the day for the Buffalo Sabres.
Fans in Buffalo let out a collective groan when they saw Sabres forward Josh Norris go down on a seemingly innocent play during the team's season opener against the New York Rangers this past Thursday, and unfortunately things are only going to get worse from there.
First here's a quick look at how the injury happened, as you will see from the video there's not much of anything going on here outside of a typical face off in the National Hockey League:
Norris, who has had a long history of serious injuries, was acquired in what looks more and more like an ill-fated trade with the Ottawa Senators, a trade that sent former Sabres first round pick Dylan Cozens to the Ottawa Senators. Many fans balked at the notion of acquiring the often injured Norris in exchange for such a promising young player and we are already seeing those concerns play out after just a single game this season.
On Saturday, head coach Lindy Ruff only made things worse when he confirmed that Norris wouldn't be back anytime soon.
"He's gonna miss a significant amount of time," said a very concerned Lindy Ruff. "He's still being evaluated."
Perhaps the only silver lining here is that this does not appear to be related to the shoulder injuries that have been a major issue for Norris in the past.
"It's nothing related to what he's had in the past," said Ruff when asked about the nature of the injury.
Since the trade Norris has only appeared in a total of 4 games for the Sabres with a goal and an assist to his name, a total of just 2 points, while Cozens on the other hand has played in 22 games for the Ottawa Senators with 6 goals and 11 assists, a total of 17 points, already under his belt.
It is hard not to view this as anything other than an unmitigated disaster for the Buffalo Sabres and after just 1 game you already have to start to wonder how this season will look for a franchise that has missed the playoffs in 14 consecutive seasons.
