Lineup changes for the Leafs before facing the Sharks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to have a lineup in mind for when they face off against the San Jose Sharks later tonight, and it says a great deal about where the team sits right now and perhaps more importantly how head coach Sheldon Keefe feels about his squad.

The biggest news of the day is between the pipes and comes in the form of a decision that will see young goaltender Joseph Woll get just the 3rd start of his career in the National Hockey League. Unlike on previous occasions, Woll will be getting the start in this one without the Leafs facing a back to back and to many that will read as a sign of growing confidence in the young netminder.

Woll was a little shaky in his debut with the Maple Leafs, although the team would pick up the win for him nonetheless, but he was outstanding in his second outing for the team when he pitched a 20 save shutout against the New York Islanders. That performance is still fresh in everyone's mind and it seems it was enough to earn him another start and, perhaps more importantly, a little extra rest for starting netminder Jack Campbell.

Another notable move from Keefe on Thursday was the decision to leave defenseman Travis Dermott on the sidelines once again. There have been rumblings that suggest the Leafs are looking to make a trade that would involve either Dermott or fellow defenseman Justin Holl, but scratching Dermott certainly won't be doing wonders for his value. Dermott has been a healthy scratch multiple times this season already, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it is a situation that has left him a little frustrated.

David Kampf looked like he was ready to go and he is expected to play on a third line featuring Wayne Simmonds and Nick Ritchie tonight, although Keefe officially called Kampf a game time decision. Simmonds will be a part of that third line due to the fact that Ondrej Kase is believed to be out due to injury this evening, and we expect to hear more from Keefe on his status at some point today.
