It was an ugly game on the scoreboard for the Washington Capitals on Saturday night as they suffered a 7-1 stomping at the hands of the Ottawa Senators and, as is often the case when the score gets out of hand, things got a little out of hand between the players as well.

There was perhaps no single moment that encapsulated the animosity between these two teams better than a brief brawl at the end of the game's second period, one in which both Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren and Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark would get involved.

To the surprise of no one, it was Senators forward Ridley Greig, who has shown a knack for being a thorn in the side of the Senators' opposition, who would light the match that ignited the fire. Greig would crowd Lindgren in his crease well after the play was dead, leading to a hard shove from Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary that knocked Grieg down to the ice.

We were off to the races after that with players from both teams jumping into the fray, but it was when Lindgren himself got involved that the excitement really kicked up a notch. Ullmark, who was all the way down on the other side of the ice, would come across the neutral zone and jump into the pile himself with Lindgren clearly in his sights.

Unfortunately the National Hockey League officials on the ice quickly pulled Ullmark out of the pile, an odd decision given that they let the scrum continue for several seconds after the fact.
