The Senators have just lost their number one goaltender.
The Ottawa Senators have just made a shocking announcement.
According to an official statement released by the Senators franchise, number one goaltender Linus Ullmark is out indefinitely after taking a leave of absence from the team. The Senators have not shared any details about Ullmark's sudden and unexpected departure, with the team reporting only that Ullmark is leaving for "personal reasons."
Here is the Senators statement, unedited and in full:
Ottawa Senators President of Hockey
Operations and General Manager Steve Staios announced today that goaltender Linus Ullmark will be taking a leave of absence from the team for personal reasons.
Senators general manager Steve Staios has also released a statement:
"Linus has the full support of our organization during this time," said Staios. "Out of respect to Linus, we will not be making any further comments."
Ullmark has struggled this season, appearing in 28 games for the Senators but recording a 2.95 goals against average and a .881 save percentage over that stretch.
Ullmark was recently pulled by Senators head coach Travis Green after an abysmal performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs, with even pro-Senators accounts expressing their displeasure at his performance.
No way of knowing if all these events are connected, but stay tuned for more on this stunning and developing story.
