Oh boy, this certainly could have been very bad.
On Friday night the San Jose Sharks and the Las Vegas Golden Knights faced off for Game 2 of their first round series in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs this time around it was the Las Vegas Golden Knights who picked up the win after falling down 0 - 1 in the series to the Sharks. It was a big loss for the Sharks who would have had a chance to take a stranglehold on the series with a 2 - 0 lead over the Golden Knights however many of the questions following the game, especially those directed towards San Jose Sharks star forward Logan Couture, were not about the loss itself. That was because during the course of the game last night Couture blocked a shot in just about the worst way you could possibly imagine.
It is the time of year when players will literally put their bodies on the line to gain even the smallest of advantages during the course of a Stanley Cup Playoff game and Couture proved that beyond any possible doubt on Friday night. Las Vegas Golden Knights forward Cody Eakin found himself with an angle on the San Jose Sharks net and Couture took it upon himself to make that shot as difficult as he possibly could for Eakin. As we have seen countless times before in the National Hockey League Couture literally threw his body in the path of the shot as he tried to take away all the angles from Eakin.
There was one gap left however and it was between the legs of Couture, so naturally there is where Eakin would fire his shot. Eakin got a little too much on it though and instead of the shot flying towards the net after passing under Couture, it struck him directly in the groin area and caused him to collapse in agony on the ice. It was only after the game that we would learn from Couture that he had actually been struck in the testicle and that it had been a rather bad hit at that. Couture openly admitted to reporters that he thought he had lost his testicle as a result of the shot, simply responding with "luckily" after being asked if it was still there.
"I almost.... I thought I lost my testicle," said Couture.
