Logan Stanley is in hot water after his sucker punch on Saturday.
The Winnipeg Jets will likely have to prepare for a future where they will have to play at least a game, or perhaps more, without the services of veteran defenseman Logan Stanley.
On Sunday, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced that Stanley will have a hearing for the sucker punch he delivered to Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk on Saturday night. Stanley is being punished under the NHL's "roughing" rule although there is no question that the sucker punch is what caused this to come down.
Tkachuk and the Senators were irate after the incident occurred with Stanley delivering the punch to Tkachuk while the two men were being seperated by the NHL officials on the ice. Not only was Tkachuk caught completely by surprise by the punch, but Stanley had already dropped his glove and delivered a bare-knuckled shot right to Tkachuk's unsuspecting chin.
Making matters worse is the fact that Tkachuk was playing with his hand all taped up, something that made it impossible for him to engage in a genuine altercation with Stanley. No doubt that contributed significantly to the anger from both Tkachuk and the Senators bench.
Here is a look at the replay of the incident:
