Where’s smoke, there’s fire and it’s happening in Edmonton. Minutes after the opening of free agency, it was confirmed that goalie Jack Campbell is joining former teammates Zach Hyman and Tyson Barrie with the Oilers.
The netminder has signed a five-year, $25 million deal in Edmonton. There were many reports early on Wednesday morning that an offer from the Oilers was on the table.
Campbell was coming off a two-year, $3.3 million deal he signed with the Los Angeles Kings in September of 2019 and talks had emerged that the Maple Leafs weren't fighting hard to keep the pending free agent in Toronto.
The Oilers jumped on board the Campbell sweepstakes early in the offseason when veteran goalie Mike Smith later landed on the long-term injured reserve in Edmonton.
Campbell had a 31-9-6 record last season with a .914 save percentage and 2.64 goals-against average.
