According to multiple online reports, former TSN correspondent Michael Whalen has passed away after a battle with cancer.

Whalen was TSN's longtime Montreal correspondent and was always front and center with Montreal Canadiens news, and Montreal Expos news for that matter, on "Canada's Sports Leader." He retired in roughly 2007 after a successful career and was replaced by John Lu.

Interestingly enough, Whalen's grandson popped up on a Hockey's Future message board this past weekend and confirmed the death of his grandfather.

Mike Whalen was my grandfather and sadly passed away from cancer this afternoon. It was expected but not any easier for it. To answer the question, he retired happily and lived just outside of Montreal with my mother’s stepmother (who to my knowledge was never a stripper in Vegas, haha) for the rest of his life. I stumbled upon this thread a few years ago and the replies about the stripper in Vegas and the milkman were very amusing for my family, and I was reminded of it while he was in hospice care. I’m glad people remembered or thought about him, even in passing. He was a good man.

RIP, Michael. Gone but never forgotten.

One last time: For TSN, I'm Michael Whalen. Montreal.
