The Flyers are looking to get off to strong start this year after they had an abysmal start to the 2013-2014 season. However like a lot of teams the Flyers have some serious issues to addressee before they begin the season on Oct. 8th in Boston. The biggest concern of course is star forward Claude Giroux, who suffered a lower body injury after just 15 minutes into the first on-ice session for the Flyers back on September 19th. He's slated to be back for the first regular season game, but missing the entire preseason can't be anything but a negative for Giroux who despite rebounding in all star form, had a horrific start to last season. The Flyers also need to fill the gap left at left wing after the Flyers decided to trade veteran winger Scott Hartnell to Columbus last year. Brayden Schenn opened up training camp on the first line with Giroux and Jakub Vorachek, so I assume that is the direction the Flyers will be looking to go if all three players are healthy. General Manager Ron Hextall clearly thinks Vorachek has the potential to have an even greater impact this season and he voiced his opinion to the media "He's got a real gift at putting the puck in the net. He scored 20 goals, which at this stage of the game that's a lot of goals. But we still think there's more there and there's more growth. I think the biggest thing is the consistency part." Vorachek who scored 20 goals last season and is only 25 years old appears to have nowhere to go but up. Another major issue for the Flyers comes on the blue line. A position that quite frankly has been a weakness for the Flyers ever since the loss of defensive all-star Chris Pronger. It appeared that Kimmo Timonen was the Flyers best hope for a true #1 blue liner but he's been sidelined indefinitely. Doctor's discovered blood clots in both Timmonen's leg and lungs, and he is unlikely to return to professional play anytime soon if at all.Other than Michael Del Zotto who was signed on Aug. 5th, the Flyers haven't done much to help a blue line that was bailed out by Steve Mason more often than not last season. They will likely have to rely on their defensive prospects, so expect to see  Samuel Morin, Robert Hagg orShayne Gostisbehere in an NHL uniform sooner rather than later.
