After weeks of little interest, one team is believed to be kicking the tires on a potential deal.
The Vancouver Canucks’ attempts to move veteran winger Evander Kane haven’t gained much traction so far, but there may finally be some light at the end of the tunnel.
It was recently reported that Vancouver explored the idea of sending Kane back to Edmonton, but sources around the Oilers were quick to shut that down, suggesting that ship has sailed.
Now, however, another potential suitor has emerged. Two separate sources over the past week told Mayor’s Manor they believe Los Angeles Kings general manager Ken Holland is kicking the tires on a possible Kane trade.
Holland is familiar with Kane from their time together in Edmonton and could be open to reuniting with the veteran forward. With Vancouver clearly entering a rebuild, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has been shopping several veteran pieces, including pending UFAs Kiefer Sherwood and Kane.
Kane’s production hasn’t helped his trade value. He has just seven goals and 21 points in 45 games this season, well below what the Canucks hoped for when they acquired him. Still, with the trade deadline approaching, Vancouver appears ready to move on, and the Kings could be a team to watch.
Kane does hold a 16-team approved trade list in his contract, so any deal would require his approval. Whether this speculation turns into something concrete remains to be seen as the NHL Trade Deadline in early March draws closer.
