Lou Lamoriello threatens to pull out of trade because it got leaked!
A trade is coming apart because the Islanders GM hates when reports are out on his potential moves. See which one could get pulled down below:
Trade rumours have been heard on the case of New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson, who is a pending restricted free agent. The 25-year-old has faced some obstacles in becoming a true No. 1 defenseman for the Isles, which has arisen many questions on what type of contract, a bridge deal or a long-term pact, the Islanders should sign him to or even if New York should simply push for a trade involving the blue liner.
This led to many reports getting out that the Islanders were indeed shopping Dobson, but it could all come to a halt because of general manager Lou Lamoriello’s frustration.
As team insider Anthony LaRocco explains:
“Lou Lamoriello has been known to pull out of potential deals if it leaks prior. While no specifics of a deal has been leaked, I would imagine he’s not happy the reports of Noah Dobson being shopped is out there.”
Dobson is currently on long-term injured reserve after sustaining a lower-body injury on Jan. 4., but there is a sense he could return following the break for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off.
His name was once mentioned in trade rumours that saw the Islanders acquiring Elias Pettersson from the Vancouver Canucks, though the void that would be left on New York’s blue line would be hard to fill. However, the Isles could be willing to make that sacrifice in order to bring in the scoring presence they’ve been lacking the last three seasons.
Sure, Dobson could be a key trade piece for Lamoriello seeing that most teams around the NHL would be in the market for a top-end offensive defenseman who still has a ton of potential. However, with the buzz out of Dobson, GM Lou might abort the project.
Lamoriello doesn’t always trade his pending free agents, and the same could be said of Brock Nelson.
However it sounds like it all depends on what’s being said out in the media and if his trade plans are getting leaked. Instead of pulling the trigger, Lou might pull the plug.
