Lowest cap hit contract for P.K. Subban with a contender in the cards?
Would he sign it???

Fans are still waiting… P.K. Subban became an unrestricted free agent on July 13 and is still without a contract for the upcoming season. There’s been some rumblings that he is looking at all options, though it sounds like there may not be that many after all…
Subban’s agent is adamant that the defenseman is looking to play in the NHL in 2022-23 and that he will make a decision on where that will be soon, however, he also revealed to the Montreal Gazette that there has been some interest for the veteran blue liner, however, his services are not a priority out there…
Washington Hockey Now has just reported that it could be possible that the Capitals could consider brining Subban on board. This summer, the Caps did a lot to bolster their blue line but could add on Subban for a veteran leadership presence in the dressing room. Even The Hockey News’ Eric Stephens recently mentioned that the Capitals could be an interesting spot for Subban. But do not expect him to be offered a lucrative contract… Washington Hockey Now wonders if Subban could be brought in on a similar deal that saw Zdeno Chara signed with the Capitals before the start of 2021 training camp. Chara inked a low-risk, one-year deal worth $750,000 and still brought a lot to the table as a third-pairing blue liner despite his age.
While Washington Hockey Now isn’t sure if that’s the right move for the Capitals, it might be what is next for Subban… he could just land the lowest cap hit in the league on his next deal.
It was reported in late July that New Jersey Devils might still be considering taking him back and there are rumours that the Montreal Canadiens could be in the mix as well. However, sources have told Montreal Hockey Now that the Habs are not one of the teams.
There was a sense that there could be some interested from the Toronto Maple Leafs, which got fans and maybe even Subban himself dreaming of playing for his hometown team with his buddy John Tavares. However Toronto signed two free agent blue liners in Victor Mete and Jordie Benn, making the move almost impossible at this point.
With the Devils in 2019-20, he wasn’t the offensive blue liner fans knew him to be, putting up 18 points in 68 games of the COVID-shortened season. He sort of bounced back the following season, putting up 19 points in 44 games, and last year, he had 22 points in 77 games.
Will he get signed before the season opening and most importantly, for how much?
