The Red Wings lose one of their top forwards on Monday.
The Detroit Red Wings have just lost one of their top forwards to injury.
The Red Wings played in an early game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday and it would be during that game that Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond would suffer an injury after being on the receiving end of a big hit from Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev.
Tanev caught Raymond in the corner and just pancaked him into the boards, crushing Raymond at a very awkward angle in the process. Raymond's body seemed to fold under the pressure of the impact, with Raymond's body contorting as Tanev delivered the punishing blow.
Raymond would remain on the Red Wings bench for a short period of time, but it was obvious that the young forward was in a lot of discomfort. He could be seen writhing in pain, although it isn't clear exactly which part of Raymond's body took the brunt of that painful looking impact.
Here's a look at the replay:
What we do know for certain is that Raymond isn't coming back to today's game, with the Red Wings officially ruling him out with what they are calling an upper body injury.
A tough break for the Red Wings, especially this early in the regular season.
