Lucic gives pitiful excuse for his disastrous time in Edmonton

To say that things didn’t go Milan Lucic’s way during his time with the Edmonton Oilers is perhaps the understatement of the century. The big power forward was signed to a seven year, $42 million contract to much fanfare back in the 2016 offseason and now just three years into his deal, he’s essentially been tossed onto the scrap heap.

The 31 year old Lucic was shipped to the Calgary Flames earlier this offseason in exchange for another overpaid and underachieving veteran forward James Neal. Now, Lucic is finally opening up on his time with the Oilers and goes on record with what he feels the problem was in Edmonton.

Check out these quotes from Lucic from his most recent appearance on Sportsnet 960 radio in Calgary earlier this week:

“…in Edmonton I think I put a little too much pressure on myself to be this leader, power forward, goal scorer, all this type of stuff. I think I put too much on my plate, too much for me to handle.”

Excuse me? Literally all you had to do was bang bodies and go to the net… Connor McDavid will find you. Instead, you tried to play a finesse game and ended up making yourself irrelevant…

More from Looch:

“At times it wasn’t fun, especially when you’re losing and when you’re struggling,” Lucic said of his time in Edmonton.
“For someone that’s had success and been a part of really good teams, you kind of miss being a part of that culture and going to the rink every day trying to get better. Not that I wasn’t trying to do that in Edmonton, but it just seemed to not flow, or I can’t really put my finger on it.
“For me personally I just want to leave the past in the past and worry about the future. Even the positives. You want to leave the positives in the past and the negatives in the past and worry about what you need to do to make the Calgary Flames a successful team going forward.”

You know what? We wish Lucic nothing but the best in Calgary. There’s no denying just how electric of a player Lucic was in his prime, especially during his days with the Boston Bruins. If he can get back to playing like he did during his heyday, he’ll convert a lot of angry fans.
