The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) saw one of its dirtiest plays in recent memory on Saturday night. Brampton Steelheads defenseman Luke Dragusica executed a brutal, two-handed slash to the head of Brady Blaseg during a game against the Oshawa Generals, leaving Blaseg gushing blood and prompting immediate outrage across the league.

The incident occurred late in the third period after a hard, clean hit behind the net. Both players went down, and Dragusica, far from being reckless in the heat of the moment, took the time to target Blaseg’s head with a savage, premeditated swing. Fans, players, and analysts immediately condemned the act as one of the dirtiest plays in the OHL in years.

The league’s response was swift and historic. OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford announced that Dragusica has been suspended for the remainder of the 2025–26 regular season and playoffs. In addition to missing the rest of the campaign, Dragusica must complete a league-mandated education, counseling, and community service program, and he will have to appear before a Reinstatement Panel before he can apply to return for the 2026–27 season.

Dragusica was assessed a match penalty for slashing with 2:11 remaining in the third period, but the league clearly felt the severity warranted a far stronger response.

The play sparked widespread discussion about player safety, the limits of aggression in junior hockey, and the consequences for actions that cross the line. For Blaseg, the focus now is on recovery, while Dragusica faces the consequences of a reckless act that the OHL has made clear it will not tolerate.
