Are the 3 Hughes brothers plotting a major move in the NHL.
There is an extremely interesting situation going on in New Jersey right now, one that potentially involves all 3 of the Hughes brothers.
This week, Devils reporter Ryan Novozinsky shared the latest on the contract standoff that is ongoing between Luke Hughes and his current team, the New Jersey Devils. According to Novozinsky, Luke is looking for a 5 year contract while the Devils are seeking either a short-term bridge deal or a max term 8-year contract. What makes this so interesting is that Luke's desire for a 5 year contract would make him an unrestricted free agent at the same time as his brother Jack Hughes, who also currently plays for the Devils.
We have been hearing for some time now that the Hughes brothers have a desire to all play with one another on the same team in the National Hockey League, and their desire to line up their contracts in this manner certainly seems to lend credence to those whispers.
Luke and Jack are not the only factors in this equation however with brother Quinn Hughes also shining for the Vancouver Canucks. Quinn is widely considered to be among the very best defensemen in the entire NHL at this stage of his career, but he will hit unrestricted free agency before his brothers.
Quinn is entering the 5th year of a 6 year deal that carries an average annual value of $7.85 million, leaving many to speculate that he could leave at the end of that term to join his brothers in New Jersey.
Given the recent news that Luke is trying to line up his contract expiration with that of his brother Jack's however, it may very well be the case that the brothers have plans of making the Hughes brothers' reunion happen elsewhere in the NHL.
